Shiva G. Ghaed, Ph.D., M.P.H.

Oct 1, 2017, Dr. Ghaed’s love of country music took her to Route 91 on the night of the shooting in Las Vegas and she, along with many others, witnessed the horror of that night as people around her were shot and killed. She found purpose and meaning in surviving the massacre, and made it her mission to give back to her community and help guide other Route 91 survivors in their healing. One week following the shooting, Dr. Ghaed launched a free weekly support group for survivors and their family and friends. She posted weekly therapy-based articles specifically catered to and witnessing the Route 91 community recovery process. Her goal is to help people better cope with the traumatic aftermath through education and support, and with the hope of preventing the development of PTSD. A website was created,, to allow public access to these documents, and this information has been disseminated to the Route 91 community across the United States and Canada. In April, 2018, Dr. Ghaed was honored with the Citizens of Courage Award by the San Diego District Attorney’s Office, and the National Hero Award by the American Red Cross (Metro New York).

The conference committee has made an adjustment for students in our industry wishing to attend the conference. The adjustments are as follows:

1) A reduced rate of $199.00, from the $229.00 rate, for attendance to the conference. (They must have their Student ID to get this rate, since the banquet cost is included and we are trying to help a group that is in school and not actively operating yet.)

2) With their registration and attendance, FAPI will also give them a year membership to FAPI as a Student member.  If they can register pretty quickly, they will get their ID card and membership certificate at the conference.

3) This membership duration will count toward their requirements to eventually attain their Board Accredited Investigator (BAI) rating, if they elect to achieve this peer review rating.

I would encourage all of you to reach out to the local colleges/technical schools in your area that may sponsor such programs and lets see if we can get others involved.  This may be a great way to get lumps of attendees and new members for FAPI.
